Short description: Emergency & LED Lighting Upgrade of School
Introduction: Breedon Electrical Services competitively tendered for the £28,000 project to upgrade both the LED and emergency lighting at Djanogly Strelley Academy in Nottingham in a bid to reduce its maintenance costs by 70 per cent. Breedon Electrical provided a large scale upgrade of Djanogly Strelley Academy’s lighting systems, focusing mainly on the areas of learning and ‘main use’, to bring the Academy up to date with current emergency lighting regulations. The project, which was completed in August 2016, reduced the school’s running costs and improved the quality of light throughout the school.
Project Outcomes: Breedon Electrical delivered the desired set of project outcomes to the complete satisfaction of the client. Our main challenge was to develop a method of working within an operating school, whilst maintaining the safety of every staff and student member, as well as working efficiently and having a minimal impact on surrounding users and neighbours. Work started in March 2016 and was completed in August 2016.
Breedon Electrical provided full lighting schemes, designs and accurate payback calculations. Djanogly Strelley Academy is now using high quality LED lighting throughout the school, with all of the lighting products complete with a five year manufacturer’s warranty. Breedon Electrical also installed additional emergency lighting as well as upgrading the existing emergency lighting to high quality LED lighting. By carrying out these installations and upgrades, Breedon Electrical has assisted Djanogly Strelley Academy in reducing its energy usage by up to 70 per cent. Breedon Electrical offered the client value for money by including a four-year payback scheme for the school.
The lighting project was part of a series of improvements at the primary Academy on Helston Drive during the last three years to enhance the learning and general environment for pupils.

Infinite LED Recessed Panel – Cool White 40W:
Breedon Electrical installed this high performanceLED flat panel, which outperforms the Moduni 3x14W T5 600x 600 and provides low glare and even light distribution. The product is ideal for schools as its optimum performance allows for reduced luminaire quantities and gives out homogeneous light with optimum levels of contrast to avoid any direct or reflected glare.
The product has an average lifetime of 40,000 hours and includes a five year warranty when registered and it is supplied with a remote driver and has various dimmable options.
Airbeam 35W LED Batten:
Breedon Electrical also installed this high performance LED batten for multi-purpose applications. It features optional models for continuous through-wiring installations and provides up to a 56 per cent energy saving compared to T8 fluorescent. It also features a steel body construction with powder coat finish. The product has an average lifetime of 40,000 hours and also features Polycarbonate reeded diffuser and end caps, instant light output with unlimited switching, self-test emergency as standard and a CorridorFUNCTION for dimmable microwave sensor models.
